The Helmalu system for paddy Cultivation

The Helmalu paddy cultivation means;to preparation the groundfor cultivating paddy;As steps by steps like ladders.This preparation occurs in very slopy ground in hill areas.close to damahana E-village tha villege called mawelacan be seen the helmalu paddy cultivation system. In this villege the pepole grow Tea for cash crops but the paddy grows for day today home comsumption.Helmalu paddy cultivation is some what difficult task. Because the farmer has to prepar many small beds.There fore the farmer has to spend 20-30 days finish one term. But the farmers help each others and work in peace and to their task successfully.

The special thing in this systems are ploushing the paddy land by using cattles.The men can do this with their own hands. In this occation people use

 

spring water.This spring water is not enoughfor the large areas of paddy land.But there is a small stream flows theugh this hamlet and people erected an anicut and use as a irrgation.In the past people cultivated two crops. But now a days the lack of rain and heavy drought people cutivate only one crop people grow vegetables in some parts of the paddy landsAt present there are some great problems.

1. At the begining of the streaw people make large tanlc and distribute the water through pipes for drinlcing and bathing to another village called “welange” so there willbe no water for “yala”season.
2. The anisut is ruined and water flows in vain.
3. The paddy lands that not enough water,people are going to grow Tea. So that in the near future we can see arange tea of estates in these helmalu paddy lands Thase arethe problems

   My friend name is w.d.Sureka Dulanjale karunarathna.She lives at ellukkumbura in Weligepola divisional
secretariat.Mother,father and two sisters in her familly. her mother is Mrs,Chandrawathi and her father
is Mr.Krunarathna.Her sister’s name is w.d. inoka shamali and other’s name is w.d nayomi nirmali.she
has no brothers
         she educated firstly R/sri Wimalawansa Vidyalaya up to nine class After that she educates cleverly
R/Damahana maha vidyalaya up to this moment in grade 13 Arts section.
      In her young age she is clever both education and sports. she is the faster sporter  in school for
events 100 metres and 200 metres Not only that, she won the champian for the inter gonel sports.
          Any way she won the second olace for  xxxiii national sports festival in 2007 which Organised
by the ministry of sports In sabaragamuwa provincal sports she won the third place of hundred
metres ending 1.34 seconds by her
